Athletic Bilbao convincingly celebrated with 4:1 at the visit of Elche in a match in which the visitors solved all the dilemmas about the winner already in the first half. The guests started offensively and after only 22 minutes they led with 3:0, and by the end of the first part, Berengur also scored in the 44th minute for a convincing lead of 4:0.
It was the last goal of Athletic Bilbao that was historic. The Basques haven’t scored four goals away from home in the first half of the championship for incredible 66 years, and that happened today. Previously, the last time they had done that away was against Real Sociedad in October 1956 when they won 4:3, and scored all four goals in the first half.
The last time Athletic Bilbao scored four goals in the first 45 minutes was in 1996 against Logroños in a 6:0 win at San Mames.
