Tesla launches a new version of the Model 3 in Europe
Tesla has released a lower priced version of its Model 3 in Europe, attempting to boost sales after a negative reaction to Elon Musk’s involvement with Donald Trump and a broader decline in demand for electric vehicles.
Musk argued that the more affordable option, which debuted in the United States in October, would help revive interest by attracting a wider range of buyers.
The new Model 3 Standard is listed at a price of 37,970 euros.
The move follows the introduction of a lower cost Model Y SUV, Tesla’s best selling model, in both Europe and the United States.
The cheaper versions of the Model 3 and Model Y remove some premium finishes and features found in higher end models, but still offer a driving range of more than 480 kilometers.
Tesla’s sales have fallen across Europe as the company faces increasing competition from Chinese rival BYD, which overtook Tesla’s sales in the region for the first time earlier this year.
Sales in the European Union have also been affected by a backlash from buyers over Musk’s support for Trump’s election campaign and his work during the former president’s administration.
