Former England footballer Michael Carrick is set to take the helm at Middlesbrough soon.
Forty-one-year-old Carrick, who won the Premier League five times as a player with Manchester United, is Middlesbrough’s first choice as manager.
Carrick is already in advanced negotiations with the Championship side and an official announcement is expected soon.
He will replace Chris Wilder in charge of the coaching staff, who was sacked after suffering five defeats in his first 11 games and being knocked out in the League Cup by Barnsley.
This would be Carrick’s first job as a first-team manager, having been part of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff at United since his retirement in 2018.
According to local media, Carrick was recommended to Middlesbrough by England manager Gareth Southgate.
Middlesbrough are currently in 22nd position in the Championship with just 13 points from 14 games.
