Oscar Mingueza has become a sought-after figure in the transfer market this summer, with a host of European clubs keen on acquiring his services ahead of the new season.

The Barcelona defender has been deemed surplus to the requirements by Xavi Hernandez, who has significantly strengthened his ranks at the back by bringing in Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen.

It has left Mingueza trailing in the pecking order, with the academy graduate even being omitted from Barça’s squad for the ongoing pre-season tour to the United States.

The defender was asked to remain in Barcelona and train at Ciutat Esportiva while actively trying to find a new club. The player himself is believed to be keen on leaving Camp Nou, with Celta Vigo emerging as the potential destination.

The Galician outfit were reportedly in advanced talks with Mingueza over a summer move to Estadio de Balaidos.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Celta Vigo is set to face fresh competition from Trabzonspor in the race to sign the Barcelona defender this summer.

The Turkish outfit have expressed the late desire to sign Mingueza and are even willing to double the salary he is being offered at Celta Vigo, which could potentially alternative the state of the transfer saga.

Although the negotiations are currently in the final stages, Barcelona are holding out for a fee of €5 million, whereas Celta only want to pay €2 million while giving Barça the option to obtain a percentage of any future sale.

However, it will not be surprising to see Mingueza prioritising a prolonged stay in La Liga, with Celta Vigo already preparing a four-year contract for the defender.

At the same time, a ‘double-your-salary’ contract will certainly be an enticing one for the young centre-back, so it will be interesting to see how this saga transpires in the coming days.
