Barcelona have been handed a rare opportunity in the transfer market as Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva has reportedly been offered to the Catalan club before the final year of his contract.
His availability as a free agent makes the move very attractive. The Portugal international is keen to leave the Premier League and is weighing up options, with offers reportedly coming from Saudi Arabia, Juventus and Benfica.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, has suggested that the player would even accept a pay cut to facilitate a transfer to Barcelona.
However, Barcelona face a dilemma. Silva’s preferred positions are already well-covered in the squad, while the club’s priorities for the coming term are different.
The decision, therefore, has less to do with the quality of the player and more with real need, forcing the club to weigh up between exploiting a rare opportunity in the market and maintaining strategic discipline in transfers.
Silva, meanwhile, is focused on winning trophies with Man City in the final year of his contract, where he faces Arsenal at Wembley for the EFL Cup on Sunday.
