Real Madrid are planning to sign a new midfielder this summer and, before the transfer window opens, have several targets on their list.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri is no longer among them, but the Madrid club continue to monitor the Premier League market. One name in particular that has caught the eye is Adam Wharton.
Real Madrid have been following Wharton for over a year and he has made a very positive impression on the club’s sporting directors.
At 22 years old and already part of the England national team, he fits perfectly with the transfer policy that Los Blancos have followed in recent years, making a move a possibility.
The chances of this transfer have increased even more, as reports from England indicate that Wharton has requested to leave Crystal Palace this summer.
He is aiming to move to a club that plays in the Champions League and, although he is wanted by Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City, his destination could be the ‘Santiago Bernabeu’.
However, despite the player’s desire to leave, Crystal Palace have made it clear that any transfer will only take place on the club’s terms.
They have set a price tag of 100 million euros for the midfielder, a figure that could discourage Real Madrid’s interest.
At this stage, Real Madrid still have no clear final target for the summer, but Wharton remains one of the main options on the shortlist.
The club considers him one of the most attractive alternatives on the market and, although the current price is 100 million euros, the fact that the player wants to leave could influence the transfer fee to be reduced.
