Joan Laporta has spoken out about the controversy surrounding referees and the Negreira case, delivering a strong message ahead of his return as Barcelona president.
He did not hesitate to express his dissatisfaction with the way he believes Barcelona is treated compared to Real Madrid.
“I’ve always felt that we should be much superior, because the referees don’t favor us.”
“Here it seems like they always help Madrid. They have ‘Barcelonitis’, it’s obvious. Now they criticize that we have hired someone who was a vice-president, while they have had presidents of the referees’ committee linked to Madrid.”
Laporta also spoke about his relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, admitting that communication between them has been minimal since the Negreira affair broke out.
Regarding the Super League, he explained the reasons for Barcelona’s withdrawal from the project, highlighting the lack of concrete progress and the fact that UEFA has taken steps to improve the sustainability of European football.
Meanwhile, in terms of sports, Barcelona continues to fight for La Liga and the Champions League, where they are four points ahead of Real Madrid in the Spanish championship, and will face Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals of the most important competition in the world.
