London Giants Reach Aggrement With Barca’s Star

Chelsea are bringing an old target back to the table for the summer transfer window, aiming to sign French defender Jules Kounde, who is currently at Barcelona.

The London club’s interest in Kounde is not new, as it dates back to 2021, when the Blues attempted to transfer him from Sevilla, before he ended up at Camp Nou for around 50 million euros.

Chelsea’s leaders see the French defender as a key reinforcement for the defensive department, as part of the ambition to increase the team’s competitive level.

After several seasons of rebuilding, the club aims to bring in players who combine experience with quality and who have proven themselves at the highest levels of European football. Kounde’s profile, who can play both in central defence and on the wing, is considered ideal for the team’s requirements.

However, the operation is expected to be complex, despite the player’s good form under coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s financial situation could force the club to consider significant offers.

A possible sale of Kounde would bring the Catalan club significant income, necessary for balancing finances and registering other players.

On the other hand, Barcelona are not expected to make any financial concessions. Sources close to the club suggest that the board, led by president Joan Laporta, will demand a fee ranging from 65 to 70 million euros for the French defender.

Kounde is tied to Barcelona until 2030, which gives him a stable position in the transfer market. However, a move to the Premier League remains a tempting challenge for any footballer, due to the intensity and high level of competition.

Chelsea believe that his sporting project and continued investment in the team can convince the player and his entourage to make a move to London.

Kounde’s performances in Spain, where he has accumulated over 180 official matches and has also contributed in the offensive phase, support the idea of a major investment by the English club.

The French defender’s future remains open, as Chelsea prepare for another serious attempt to sign him.

Negotiations are expected to be long and difficult, given Barcelona’s high financial demands.
