Bosnia and Herzegovina’s World Cup playoff victory over Italy on Tuesday is expected to leave Stuttgart striker Ermedin Demirovic with a staggering drinks bill after he promised to buy the club’s fans beers if his country qualified for the tournament.

The 28-year-old striker made the promise ahead of Bosnia’s playoff campaign, which ended with their penalty shootout victory over the Italians in Zenica.

“I said I would do it and I’m a man of my word. The drinks are on me,” Demirovic told Sky Sports. after the victory, when asked if he would keep his promise.

“It will probably be expensive, but it’s something I would do with love after such an achievement. Stuttgart, the drinks are on me.”

Bosnia, which will mark its second World Cup appearance, will play in Group B during the tournament from June 11 to July 19, joining Canada, Qatar and Switzerland.

This gesture could leave Demirovic with a considerable bill of around 300,000 euros, considering that Stuttgart’s ‘MHPArena’ has an average attendance of just under 60,000 fans and the price of a beer is around five euros.

Stuttgart, third in the Bundesliga, will host second-place team Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
