Diego Simeone Explains What Went Wrong In The Derby

Diego Simeone has commented on Atletico Madrid’s defeat to Real Madrid in the last La Liga match.

Atletico’s coach spoke about the reasons for the 2-3 defeat in the match of week 29, emphasizing that his team had enough opportunities to get more from this match.

Despite some questionable moments during the match – including a penalty called by Marcos Llorente and a contested foul on David Hancko – Simeone refused to blame the refereeing for the final result.

“I don’t think we lost because of those situations. We had opportunities to create big moments, but we didn’t take advantage of them. It deserved at least a little more.”

“We could have done a lot more; we could have defended better on their goals and done more in attack. We are facing serious opponents and if you give them something, they will definitely punish you.”

“We needed better control of the game and a different way of building the plays. We failed to achieve this in the decisive moments. This is the fourth time I have explained how I see the reasons for what happened in this match,” he declared.

Thus, Atletico Madrid can be said to have ended their hopes of competing for the title, while they must now focus on performing a miracle in the Champions League, where they will face Barcelona.
