Financial Problems Force Barcelona To Sell Two Stars

Barcelona are set to enter a crucial phase during the summer transfer window, with club leaders considering selling several first-team players to improve their financial situation and increase flexibility in the transfer window.

According to reports from Catalan media, sporting director Deco has been relatively cautious about sales since his arrival at the club, with the departure of Vitor Roque being one of the rare occasions that has generated over €11 million.

However, the situation this summer looks different, with Barcelona reportedly only €11–12 million away from meeting their salary cap, a threshold that would allow the club to fully use sales proceeds and savings to sign new players.

In the last five years, the club has been limited to using around 60% of this income.

Marc Casado, who was considered one of the revelations of last season under Hansi Flick, has seen his role decline this season.

The 22-year-old midfielder even made his debut for the Spanish national team after good performances against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

However, a lack of consistency this season has led the board to consider selling him, despite a contract that runs until 2028.

Casado has been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia, while he has also been mentioned as part of a possible deal with Al-Hilal, which could affect the future of Joao Cancelo.

Also on the list of potential departures is Ferran Torres, the Spanish striker had a positive year in 2025, but his form has declined significantly since the beginning of this year, not finding the net since January.

Despite receiving more minutes than Robert Lewandowski, Torres has failed to meet the expectations of the technical staff.

With just one year remaining on his contract, his future at Camp Nou remains uncertain.

Various clubs have shown interest in him, including Atletico Madrid as a replacement option for Julian Alvarez, as well as Inter Milan in various transfer scenarios involving Alessandro Bastoni.

Despite the speculation, both Torres and Casado have expressed their desire to stay at the club.

In Torres’ case, his close relationship with Pedri has been considered an additional, but not decisive, factor for his future.

Barcelona are expected to make important decisions in the coming weeks as they aim to balance their finances and build a competitive squad for next season.
