Woman in Germany Fined for Drying Clothes on Balcony
A woman of Balkan origin living in Germany has been fined 50 euros for drying clothes on her balcony, sparking a huge debate on social media.
The case became known after the woman published her experience in the Facebook group “Balkanci in Germany”, where she revealed that she had received an official warning for “disrespecting the rules of the apartment”.
“I don’t know if I’m allowed to do anything in this place anymore! It was a sunny day, I washed the clothes, put them on the balcony to dry. The neighbor above started shouting that ‘they look bad when you look down at them’. I thought she was joking, but three days later I received a letter with the fine and the warning,” she wrote ironically.
The authorities’ explanation stated that “in the relevant building, it is not allowed to see clothes from the outside.” The woman reacted with humor, asking: “Where should I dry them then, in the refrigerator?”
