Misophonia – a sign of creativity and high intelligence
A new study shows that sensitivity to noise, known as misophonia, is closely linked to high creativity and intelligence. So if you are bothered by chewing or small sounds around you, you are likely to be more creative than others.
What is misophonia?
Misophonia is a condition in which individuals react with strong annoyance to certain sounds, such as chewing, noisy breathing or even the sound of insects. Scientists at Northwestern University have found that this sensitivity is not simply a hindrance, but is often associated with high creativity.
What did the study show?
In a test with about 100 people, those who had higher sensitivity to noise were more talented in various fields of art.
The researchers found a link between “poor filtering of sensory information” and creative abilities.
Famous figures such as Charles Darwin, Anton Chekhov, Marcel Proust, Goethe and Franz Kafka all had the same annoyance with chewing noises.
Positive message
The next time chewing noises or small sounds around you annoy you, remember that this could be a sign of high intelligence and creativity.
