João Cancelo Set to Return to Europe — And to His Former Club

News

The future of João Cancelo is taking shape on the European transfer market, with the Portuguese defender expected to leave Al-Hilal after a short spell in Saudi Arabia.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan have opened direct talks both with the Saudi club and with Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, to explore the possibility of Cancelo’s return to Serie A.

Cancelo is seen as an ideal profile for Inter’s tactical system. He has played for the club before and left a positive impression during his first spell at San Siro. A return to a familiar environment and to an elite European competition is considered a very attractive option for the player.

At the same time, FC Barcelona have been informed about Cancelo’s situation, but any potential move by the Blaugrana remains subject to Financial Fair Play regulations. For now, there have been no concrete steps from Catalonia, despite the interest.

Juventus have also entered the race. The Turin club have made early contact with Jorge Mendes to gather information on contractual conditions and the financial parameters of a possible transfer, keeping open the option of strengthening their defensive flanks.

Cancelo, who has extensive experience at the top level of European football with clubs such as Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Juventus, and Inter, remains one of the most sought-after names on the current transfer market.

Meanwhile, Al-Hilal are evaluating their options before making a final decision on the player’s future, as European clubs await the next developments.
