Why Did Bayern Munich Celebrate With a Parrot

News

Bayern Munich secured their 35th Bundesliga title after a 4-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart in matchday 30, but the celebration on the pitch was more subdued than usual.

The official championship trophy was not yet presented, and instead, a completely unusual “trophy” appeared on stage: a porcelain parrot.

According to Goal.com, after the final whistle it seemed as if the title was almost a secondary issue for the Bavarians, which is also related to the crucial matches that the team still has ahead of them this season.

However, the atmosphere was softened when players and staff were given commemorative title T-shirts. The white shirt featured a parrot wearing Bayern’s classic home shirt – red with white sleeves – holding the championship trophy, without any additional inscriptions such as “35”, “German champions” or “number 1”.

Many who remember last year’s celebration immediately understood the symbolism. At one point, Leon Goretzka held up the porcelain parrot, which has now become a kind of “mascot” within the team and is located in the club’s trophy room.

Where did the parrot come from?

For those who haven’t followed the story, it all starts on May 10, 2025. During last season’s title celebrations, coach Vincent Kompany unexpectedly placed a white porcelain parrot on the podium, entertaining the players and turning the object into an inside team “joke.”

It was later learned that the bird had been “borrowed” a week earlier from the luxury Kafer restaurant, where the team had gathered to celebrate, at a time when the title was practically certain – even after arch-rivals Bayer Leverkusen drew 2-2 with Freiburg.

The decorative object quickly became a symbol of the celebration. The restaurant’s owner, Michael Kafer, later gifted the team a similar parrot worth around 1,000 euros, which even traveled with the team to the Club World Cup (placed in a display case during the trip).

Now, a year later, the porcelain parrot is back in the spotlight — as a new tradition and a symbolic detail of Bayern’s celebrations.
