Cameras captured a heated argument between Vinicius Junior and Omar El Hilali during Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Espanyol.
The Brazilian striker and the homegrown defender were involved in a verbal war, with Vinicius at one point refusing to exchange shirts.
“Don’t talk nonsense, you’ll ask me for my shirt later… You’re stupid, you’ll just get into a fight… I’m not giving you my shirt,” Vinicius told the Espanyol player, as captured by Movistar cameras and reported by Spanish media.
Footage shows Vinicius complaining about El Hilal’s behaviour while the ball was not in play.
“Idiot. You’re so stupid,” Vinicius said to El Hilal, increasingly irritated, to which the latter responded in kind.
Shortly afterwards, El Hilal was sent off for a challenge on Vinicius. However, the referee overturned his decision after reviewing the video via VAR and only showed him a yellow card.
Vinicius then suggested to Espanyol coach Manolo Gonzalez that he replace his player. “You have to take him off, he will be sent off,” said the Brazilian, but the home team coach ignored the provocation.
Vinicius then turned to his teammate and commented on El Hilal: “He’s a fool, brother. He’s acting like a fool in front of the cameras.”
After the crowd at RCDE Stadium chanted “Vinicius, beach ball!” and El Hilali smiled, the Real Madrid forward addressed the Espanyol defender with the words: “You’re going back to the second division, brother. You’re very bad,” Vinicius added, to which El Hilali responded with a curse.
