Spectators watching the first matches of the 2026 World Cup, along with the goals and the action on the pitch, have noticed an unusual detail – almost all of the football players are wearing pink football boots.
Although at first glance it seems that players from different national teams are wearing the same design, this is a deliberate trend that was started by the biggest sports brands ahead of the World Cup. Nike, Adidas and Puma presented their new collections in very similar neon shades of pink and purple.
The BBC notes that a shade known as “Electric Fuchsia” stands out in particular. In 2024, trend forecasting firm WGSN predicted that this particular color would dominate summer 2026. They described it as a vibrant and bright shade at the intersection of pink and purple, radiating the energy of the digital age.
It is not known whether the designers of the sports giants were directly guided by this prediction, but the development of new football boot models usually begins up to two years before their release. In this process, brands closely monitor fashion and consumer trends in order to choose the colors and styles that will attract the most attention at a given moment.
Visibility as the key to success
The color pink has proven extremely useful in football because it creates a strong contrast with the green background. It is easily visible from the stands, on television broadcasts, in slow-motion videos and on social media, so manufacturers see it as a powerful marketing tool.
Such a look would have been almost unimaginable twenty years ago, when footballers had been playing in mostly black boots for decades. In the early 2000s, white, yellow, green and other eye-catching patterns began to appear, and players gradually became more open to extravagant designs. Brands realized that the color brought them additional visibility on the world’s biggest stage.
The paradox of uniformity
Interestingly, the major manufacturers have now found themselves in a kind of paradox. Although they all wanted to stand out with their designs, they ended up making many players look almost identical on the field.
Black shoes have become a rarity, and the pink color, judging by the start of the 2026 World Cup, has become one of the most recognizable details of the tournament.
