Manchester United legend Roy Keane has expressed concerns about Bukayo Saka’s form just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
The former Irish midfielder believes the Arsenal star is not looking at the level that makes him an undisputed choice for England’s starting line-up in the opening match against Croatia.
Analyzing England’s performance in the friendly against Costa Rica, Keane highlighted Saka’s lack of usual dangerousness.
“I don’t know. The only thing I’ve seen from Saka is a few times where he had the chance to get past opponents, but in my opinion he’s lost that spark a bit,” Keane said.
According to him, the physical problems the English striker has gone through at the end of the season may have affected his current form.
“The timing is not good if he still has any physical problems. Maybe that could cost him a bit,” added the former Manchester United captain.
Keane continued his criticism by pointing out that Saka is no longer showing the same determination in one-on-one situations.
“I think he lost his spark. There were a few opportunities near the area where he could have passed opponents and he didn’t. That could be a bit worrying for the coach,” he said.
Saka missed several weeks at the end of the season due to injury, a period during which Noni Madueke took up more space in the England squad.
Coach Thomas Tuchel has other options in the attacking department, but it remains to be seen whether he considers Saka fully fit for England’s first World Cup match against Croatia.
Despite Keane’s doubts, Saka remains one of the Three Lions’ most important players and is expected to play a key role in England’s ambitions for success at the 2026 World Cup.
