The coach of the Netherlands, Louis Van Gaal, spoke from Qatar about the match against Argentina, valid for the quarter-finals of the World Cup. The 71-year-old was also in charge of the tulips in the 2014 World Cup, where he was eliminated by the blue and white.
“I said that we can become world champions with this national team. I didn’t say we would, but we could. And if in the end we don’t win, it’s because only one team wins and I don’t think we can talk about failure. I’ve heard that many teams have different personalities. We haven’t, but I just explained that we can win, because the value is in the team and its spirit. The atmosphere is always fantastic. I believe in the team, not in individuals. I hope they can demonstrate that.”
Then speaking about Messi, Van Gaal recalled: “Obviously, he is the most important player for Argentina, the most creative. Eight years ago in our last clash he didn’t touch the ball but in the end we lost on penalties.”
