A study has found that the season you were born shapes your character and has nothing to do with your horoscope
Date of birth and personality? Sounds like astrology, right? But in fact, studies have shown that people born in winter, spring, summer and autumn have different traits that are directly related to the season they were born in
A study by Semmelweis University in Hungary, led by Professor Xenia Gonda, has found that there is a clear connection between the month of birth, mood and personality of a person. She surveyed 366 university students – 258 men and 108 women and divided them according to the season of birth, identifying four main personality types: temperamental, energetic/positive, calm and prone to depression.
According to Professor Gonda, “biochemical studies have shown that the season of birth affects the levels of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin and this effect is visible even in adulthood.” She added that the period of birth can increase or decrease the risk of developing mood disorders.
If the seasons affect our mood, then it is logical that they also affect the way we are formed as people, and this is exactly what the study has discovered.
If you were born in the spring, scientists have found that you have a hyperthymic temperament, you are lively, optimistic and energetic. “Spring babies” are usually positive people who feel better on bright and sunny days.
However, winter can be challenging for them, many people born in the spring experience a mood drop in the cold period, a mild form of seasonal depression. But in general, they are full of enthusiasm, companionship and strong positive feelings towards life. Early exposure to natural light affects them to have more serotonin – the happiness hormone.
If you were born during the summer months, you are likely to experience more frequent mood swings, a trait called cyclothymic temperament. Ironically, you’re also more positive than people born in any other season. Mood swings don’t mean you’re unhappy—quite the opposite.
A study published in PLOS ONE found that people born in August are less likely to develop bipolar disorder. “Summer babies,” as researchers call them, are more likely to have a good mood and high energy in their daily lives.
If you were born in the fall, you have a calm and happy nature. The Plos One study found that people born in this period have higher emotional intelligence than those born in other seasons.
But there’s more. People born in the fall are often more successful academically and professionally, as they have good analytical skills and a strong tendency to learn.
According to Mother & Child magazine, women born in the fall months may also have a natural protection against breast and uterine cancer, as mothers who were pregnant during the summer have higher levels of reproductive hormones, which positively affects the development of the female fetus.
If you were born in the winter, scientists at Semmelweis University would describe you as a calmer and more reserved person than those born in other seasons. However, you may be slightly more prone to low moods.
This group is known for what researchers call low-reactivity temperaments – calm people who are not easily stressed and know how to save their energy for situations that require it. Winter conditions, with a lack of light and short days, affect the production of melatonin, so people born in this season sleep better naturally.
Another interesting advantage of being born in the winter is creativity. More time indoors during childhood can stimulate the imagination, which is why many “winter babies” tend to have talents in art, music, or writing.
In the end, it’s not about the stars, it’s about the sun and light. The season you were born in can affect your mood, your biological rhythms, and how you perceive the world. Science has proven it: the time of your birth doesn’t determine your destiny, but it can explain a lot about how you feel.
