Countries that use ChatGPT the most
ChatGPT has managed to create a real technological revolution and change the way we search for information. While scientists are alarmed that its use can harm our brains and make us lazy, many see the chatbot as a medical, psychological and all kinds of other consultants. And often this leads to real addiction, and we have already seen more than one or two similar examples with our own eyes.
London, UK – 05 03 2025: Apple iPhone screen with Artificial Intelligence icons internet AI app application ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, Claude, etc.
To show us the dimensions of ChatGPT, Visual Capitalist ranks the countries that generate the most traffic based on data from Similarweb. Specific figures are also highlighted, which can definitely make us raise our eyebrows in surprise.
The media reports that global traffic to the AI chatbot for August 2025 is 5.6 billion visits, which is 10 times more than that of Google’s Gemini. There is an increase among business users, who are now 5 million and generate revenue for OpenAI of over 20 billion per year.
Artificial intelligence is a relief, but also a threat
As for traffic from different countries, the championship is led by the United States with a 15.1% share of all visits, which is equal to 883 million. In second place, surprisingly or not, is India with 9.3% or 544 million. The country has reported the largest increase in the use of ChatGPT. According to another study, as many as 92% of office workers use AI in their work, which is about 64% more than in the United States.
In third place is Brazil with a 5.3% share. There is also a rapid growth of the AI chatbot, as evidenced by 310 million visits in August. In fourth place is the United Kingdom with 251 million visits by its residents per month. This is followed by Indonesia, Japan, Germany, France and the Philippines.
Not everyone loves ChatGPT
And while in some countries ChatGPT is at its peak, in others it is absolutely banned for use. And there are about 20 of them around the world. In some cases, the ban comes from the authorities, in others it is related to data security and privacy, in others – a pure business decision by OpenAI.
Some of the countries whose citizens are deprived of the AI chatbot are China, where the ban is part of state censorship, North Korea, where the situation is the same, Russia, Cuba, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Bhutan, Venezuela and others. And while in other countries the prospect is that visits will not stop growing, in these countries there is no imminent prospect of a controversial approach.
