Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy XR in less than two weeks – its first VR headset that it has developed entirely in-house, from the ground up.

Samsung’s long-rumored VR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, has now been fully revealed. The device will reportedly be called the Galaxy XR, and its official launch is expected on October 21.

According to leaked but still unofficial specs, the Galaxy XR will feature two 4K micro-LED displays with 4,032 pixels per inch, which gives a total of 29 million pixels — significantly more than what the Apple Vision Pro or Meta Quest 3 offer.

The device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, while the camera and sensor system will be able to track the movement of hands, eyes and the environment. There will be four sensors on the front, and two will be placed on the bottom to track movement. The proximity sensor will take care of the user’s safety, detecting walls and objects in the room. Internal cameras will track eye movement, and additional processing with artificial intelligence will increase the accuracy of tracking, writes Android Headlines.

Samsung has paid special attention to comfort and ergonomics, so the headset has soft cushions, an adjustable headband, as well as a touchpad and buttons for power and volume control. Power is supplied via a cable on the left side of the headband, while on the right side there is a control panel.

Battery life is estimated at about 2 hours in standard use and up to 2.5 hours when watching videos. The device weighs 545 grams — slightly less than the Apple Vision Pro, but slightly more than the Meta Quest 3.

The Galaxy XR will also arrive with a pair of controllers that support haptic feedback, which will be especially useful in games and 3D applications. The first images of the software also reveal a new interface called One UI XR, specially adapted for augmented and virtual reality.

Although Samsung has not yet officially confirmed a launch date, almost all sources indicate that the Galaxy XR will be presented on October 21, and the starting price is estimated at at least $1,800.
