Amazing scenes took place yesterday in Bergamo where Atalanta played host to Torino.
Before this game, Slovenian footballer Josip Ilicic (34), who wore the jersey of the team from Bergamo for the previous five years, said goodbye to Atalanta.
Ilicic had serious health problems in the past two years. Depression ruined his career and he was never able to get back to the level and form he was in before.
So Atalanta decided to terminate the contract with this 34-year-old football player, and he accepted the termination of cooperation.
Before the match with Torino, he was given a farewell. Now the former teammates made a backdrop and warmly greeted Ilicic.
Naturally, the stands “exploded” when he appeared on the field. They chanted his name and a banner was dedicated to him.
“Thanks for everything Ilicic 72,” read the banner of the Atalanta fans.
Whether he will end his career and dedicate himself to recovering from depression or continue with football, we will probably find out in the coming period.
