Tech giant Meta has announced that it will cut about 600 jobs in its Artificial Intelligence unit, as part of a reorganization aimed at simplifying the management structure and improving operational efficiency.
According to CNBC reports, the news was made public by the head of the Artificial Intelligence unit, Alexandr Wang, who joined the company in June, following Meta’s $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI. The cuts are expected to affect key sectors, including AI Infrastructure and FAIR (Fundamental Artificial Intelligence Research).
The employees who will leave will be compensated with 16 weeks of base salary, as well as two additional weeks for each year of employment with the company.
This decision comes at a time when CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of Meta’s development in the field of Artificial Intelligence, especially after the “lukewarm reception” that the Llama 4 models have received.
Meanwhile, Meta is continuing to invest billions of dollars in new technological projects, including the construction of a giant data center in Louisiana.
