Timothée Chalamet Opens Up About His Disappointment After Losing the Oscar for Best Actor

News

American French actor Timothée Chalamet has admitted that he was disappointed not to win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in A Complete Unknown, the biopic about legendary musician Bob Dylan.

In a recent interview with Vogue promoting his new film Marty Supreme, the 29 year old actor spoke candidly about the loss at the 97th Academy Awards earlier this year.

“If there are five people nominated and four go home without a trophy, don’t you think they’ll say at dinner, ‘Well, we didn’t win?’” Chalamet said. “I’ve met some generous, ego free actors who say, ‘It was fun.’ But let’s be honest, most of us are thinking, ‘Damn it.’”

The Dune star was nominated alongside Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice), and Adrien Brody, who ultimately took home the Oscar for his role in The Brutalist.

Despite the loss, Chalamet remains ambitious and self aware about his career. He acknowledged that he has long aspired to win an Oscar and even mentioned during his SAG Award acceptance speech in February that the Academy Award had been one of his biggest goals.

“I’m not ashamed to say I want to be recognized for my work,” he added. “Every actor dreams of that moment, and I’m no different.”

Fans have praised Chalamet for his honesty, calling his words a refreshing break from the typical Hollywood modesty. As his career continues to evolve, the actor’s mix of vulnerability and confidence only strengthens his position as one of Hollywood’s most authentic and ambitious young stars.
