Dua Lipa and Major Music Stars Urge UK Prime Minister to Stop Ticket Price Abuse

News

More than forty famous artists, including Dua Lipa, Coldplay, Sam Fender, Radiohead, and The Cure, have sent a letter to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, urging him to keep his election promise to protect fans from abusive ticket resale prices.

The artists are calling for a legal cap on ticket resale prices, arguing that thousands of fans are being exploited through online platforms where tickets are bought automatically in bulk and resold for extreme markups.

In January, the government launched a public consultation after repeated complaints from fans, promising action against resellers who purchase large quantities of tickets and sell them at inflated prices. However, seven months after the consultation ended, no proposed legislation has been presented.

A recent investigation by Which magazine revealed that tickets for the Oasis concert at Wembley this summer were being resold for as much as five thousand euros. Additionally, an analysis by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found that tickets sold on secondary markets have an average price increase of over fifty percent.

Earlier this year, the government said it was considering a maximum resale price cap of thirty percent, but fans and artists are still waiting for concrete action.

Top musicians say it is time for the government to intervene to protect fans and ensure that concerts do not become an unaffordable luxury.
