Salah Could Make a Sensational Return to Serie A

News

Mohamed Salah could be on the move this January, with the Liverpool star weighing up his future as the winter transfer window gathers pace.

The Egyptian forward, currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, is exploring European options to continue his career. Once the tournament concludes, a clarifying meeting with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is expected to determine Salah’s standing at Liverpool.

Although Salah has apologised for his earlier comments, his message that the club had effectively “thrown him under the bus” continues to echo around Anfield. A mid-season exit remains possible if the right offer arrives.

Roma Enter the Picture

According to La Repubblica, AS Roma have shown interest in a shock reunion with Salah, who previously played in the Italian capital between 2015 and 2017 before joining Liverpool for €42 million.

However, the deal is far from straightforward. Salah’s reported €24 million-per-year salary presents a major financial hurdle for Roma. As a result, the Serie A side are also assessing more affordable alternatives, including:

Giacomo Raspadori (25, Atletico Madrid) — around €20m

Joshua Zirkzee (24, Manchester United) — around €40m

What Happens Next?

Salah is expected back at Anfield no later than January 18, following the AFCON final. The transfer saga could intensify further should Saudi Arabian clubs table a lucrative bid.

The January transfer window for Europe’s top leagues—and the Saudi Pro League—closes on February 2, leaving little time for what could be one of the most dramatic moves of the season.
