A woman accused of opening fire on Rihanna’s Beverly Hills home is now facing attempted murder charges and could spend the rest of her life in prison if convicted.
Ivanna Ortiz appeared Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court for an arraignment hearing, according to court records. Prosecutors have charged her with multiple serious offenses, including attempted murder.
In addition to that charge, Ortiz faces nine counts of assault with a firearm, two counts of shooting at an inhabited building, and one count of shooting at a vehicle.
The 35 year old suspect appeared in court wearing a blue jail uniform with her hair in two blonde braids. During the brief hearing she pleaded not guilty. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 26.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said after the hearing that Ortiz could face life imprisonment if convicted on the charges.
Ortiz is currently free on a 1.8 million dollar bond, significantly lower than the original bail amount of 10.225 million dollars. The court has also ordered her to stay away from Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky.
According to investigators, Ortiz was arrested Sunday after allegedly firing about ten rounds from an AR-15 rifle at Rihanna’s property in California.
At the time of the shooting, Rihanna was living in the residence with A$AP Rocky and their three children: RZA, Riot Rose, and their youngest baby, Rocky Irish Mayers.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 1:21 p.m. Photos from the scene reportedly show bullet holes in the security gate before the shooter struck a trailer parked in the driveway.
During a press conference, prosecutors revealed that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside the trailer when the shots were fired, with bullets reportedly passing through the front windshield.
The court also heard that the suspect allegedly fired at another house in the same neighborhood, where two people were inside at the time.
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s mother, her three children, and two staff members were in the main house during the attack, according to prosecutors.
Following the arrest, reports from Page Six indicated that Ortiz had previously been arrested for domestic violence after allegedly assaulting her ex husband.
The case has now moved forward in court, as authorities continue investigating the alarming incident involving the global pop star’s home.
