Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has admitted his side had a very difficult evening after their 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

The Dutch defender stressed that the match was as expected, with PSG dominating and Liverpool being forced to defend with many players near the area.

He admitted that the first goal came from an unfortunate deflection, while his team failed to capitalize on the few chances on the counterattack.

“Of course I’m not happy. The only positive thing is that we face them again next week,” Van Dijk declared.

In another reaction, he stressed that Liverpool face the current European champions and the upset will not be easy at all. According to him, the team must be perfect in every aspect to have a real chance of qualifying.

“We have to remember that we are facing the European champions. It doesn’t matter if we play at home or away – we have to be at our best in every detail,” he added.

Van Dijk also highlighted the importance of the fans in the return leg at Anfield, stressing that the atmosphere in the stadium could play a decisive role in the comeback attempt.
