Toni Kroos Talks About a Possible Return to Football

News

Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos has categorically rejected suggestions of a sensational return to professional football, two years after his retirement.

During an appearance at the ‘Laureus World Sports Awards 2026’, the 36-year-old stressed that he has no intention of changing his decision, despite ongoing speculation about the current atmosphere in Madrid.

Kroos was honored with the Inspiration Award at the ceremony, in recognition of an extraordinary career that includes a World Cup title and six Champions League trophies.

The German icon retired from football in 2024, immediately facing questions about a possible return to help stabilize the current Real Madrid squad.

Speaking to the media at the event, via AS , Kroos remained adamant that his career is over and that returning now would only risk damaging his legacy.

“I never thought about it, because I retired exactly as I wanted. I closed that chapter, even if I thought about coming back, it’s too late now.”

“I always felt it couldn’t end any better. Anything that came after would be worse.”

“Now I have other motivations in life and other projects. That chapter closed well for me and I left happy, without the feeling that it could have been done better. I was happy, and that’s it,” the German declared .
