Barcelona are expected to be without Lamine Yamal until the end of the season after tests carried out on Thursday morning confirmed a hamstring tear.
The 18-year-old striker was injured in the match against Celta Vigo on Wednesday night, where he scored from the penalty spot, a goal that proved enough to secure Barcelona the three points.
The young talent was awarded the penalty and he sent the ball powerfully into the corner, but almost immediately turned and signaled to the Barcelona bench for a substitution.
He then lay on the pitch and, after intervention from the staff, was helped to his feet, before limping off. Even before the end of the match, there were suspicions that he had suffered a torn hamstring.
Lamine Yamal is expected to be out for around five to six weeks, which will rule him out of all of Barcelona’s remaining La Liga matches. The main question now is how fit he will be at the World Cup.
Spain’s first match at the World Cup is in Atlanta, on June 15, against Cape Verde. According to this schedule, Yamali would return about two weeks before the opening match.
Meanwhile, Barcelona must maintain their lead over Real Madrid in the title race. The Catalans have a nine-point advantage over Los Blancos with six games remaining.
The series continues on Saturday with Getafe at the “Coliseum”, then with another transfer to Osasuna at “El Sadar”, to culminate with the reception of Real Madrid at the “Camp Nou”.
