Liverpool could see five players leave for free once the summer transfer window opens. Among them is Mohamed Salah, who has already confirmed that this season will be his last at Anfield.
The Reds spent around €519.4 million in the transfer window last summer, with names like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike costing a fortune.
Despite that investment, the defense of the Premier League title failed and they are currently in fourth place, with qualification for the Champions League next season being the only concrete thing they can get out of a difficult season.
When the summer comes, there will undoubtedly be further changes to the squad. As things stand now, five players, including Salah, could leave on a free transfer.
Salah is the main name expected to leave in June, as although his contract officially expires in 2027, the deal will be terminated earlier and he will bid farewell to Anfield after nine trophy-filled years.
Salah is not the only legend set to leave this summer, as Andy Robertson is also in his final season at the club. His contract expires this summer and he has announced that he will leave as soon as it is up.
Like Robertson, Ibrahima Konate’s contract is also expiring and he could theoretically leave the club. But he revealed earlier this month that he is set to sign a new long-term deal at Anfield.
Two other players will also have their contracts expire in June, according to the current situation. New defender Rhys Williams and third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
Liverpool have the option to extend Woodman’s contract for another year and could activate him, given that he has been forced to play in the last few matches.
Williams has been a part of Liverpool for 15 years, having joined the club’s academy as a 10-year-old in 2011.
