Arsenal could surprise in the summer transfer window, as according to reports in England they are considering the possibility of selling Ethan Nwaneri, although previously the talent was considered part of the club’s long-term plans.
The media reports that the Gunners are now open to listening to offers worth £35-40 million for the 19-year-old, after a difficult loan spell at Olympique de Marseille.
Nwaneri joined the French club in January on loan but failed to make a big impact, registering two goals and one assist in 11 appearances in all competitions.
The attacking midfielder reportedly went to Marseille with the idea of working under Roberto De Zerbi, but the Italian coach left the club in February and was subsequently appointed to Tottenham Hotspur.
Meanwhile, current Marseille coach Habib Beye has been publicly critical of Nwaneri during his time in France, further complicating the player’s situation.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously stated that Arsenal had “full faith” in Nwaneri and would assess his future at the end of the season. However, recent reports claim that the London club are now willing to listen to offers, with several European giants closely monitoring him.
Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and AC Milan are among the clubs reportedly monitoring the developments. Chelsea are said to have an early interest in Nwaneri, having previously attempted to sign him before the player signed his final contract with Arsenal.
Nwaneri has made 51 appearances for Arsenal’s first team, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists. His current contract at the Emirates runs until 2030.
