“Al-Hilal Lied to Me” – Joao Cancelo Reveals The Truth

News

Barcelona defender Joao Cancelo has spoken openly about his time at Al Hilal, saying he was “lied to” by people within the club in Saudi Arabia.

The Portuguese returned to Barcelona on loan during the winter transfer window, after Al Hilal left him out of the squad for the remainder of the season.

“At Al Hilal, unfortunately, I had people who didn’t tell me the truth. They told me they would register me on the Saudi league roster and then, when the day came, they didn’t,” Cancelo told reporters.

The Portuguese revealed that he is often labelled as having a “bad personality”, but insisted that he is simply straightforward and consistent in his word.

“And then I’m always the one with the bad personality… But at least I keep my word, I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’ve always been the same. I’m straightforward.”

However, Cancelo stressed that he holds no grudge against anyone and now feels happy at Barcelona, where he has even managed to win a trophy.

“I don’t hold a grudge against anyone. Today I’m here, I’m very happy, I won a title with Barcelona, which for me is the best club in the world,” Cancelo concluded.

Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether Barcelona will finally manage to buy Cancelo from the Arab team.
