Real Madrid are reportedly targeting a surprise Sunderland star who could become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of his second spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to reports, Mourinho has agreed a two-year contract to return to Los Blancos, 13 years after being sacked following his first spell in charge of the club.
He is expected to leave his post as Benfica coach to replace his former player, Alvaro Arbeloa, who announced on Friday that he would step down from his role after a trophyless season.
Names have already started to circulate as summer transfer targets. Defensa Central claim that strengthening the right-back is a priority, as veteran captain Dani Carvajal is set to leave after winning 27 trophies in 23 years with the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to stay for a second season, but Real are looking for an additional option on the right and are looking at three Premier League players – including Sunderland’s Trai Hume.
The Northern Irish defender had an impressive first season in the Premier League, playing 36 games for Sunderland, who can still secure qualification for European competition next season.
The 24-year-old, who has a contract until 2030, is seen as a low-cost option for Real, with a possible fee of around 22 million euros also mentioned.
In the Premier League, other names mentioned as potential targets for Real are Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong and Matt Wieffer.
Meanwhile, the shortlist also includes Monaco’s Vanderson and Feyenoord’s Givairo Read.
