Jose Mourinho will earn around 6 million euros per season as Real Madrid coach, a figure similar to that of former coach Xabi Alonso, reports Diario Sport.
According to the same source, Los Blancos will also have to pay a release clause of 7 million euros to prise Mourinho away from Benfica, while last season they spent about half of this amount to bring Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen.
Mourinho has reportedly reached an agreement with Real Madrid to take over as manager, succeeding Alvaro Arbeloa, after a disappointing 2025/26 season for the Spanish giants.
However, the move is currently on hold due to developments in the club’s political scene: Enrique Riquelme’s candidacy for the Real Madrid presidential elections, where he will run against Florentino Perez, has meant that the final decision has not yet been made official.
Mourinho is meanwhile expected to make some changes to the squad, with around seven players already up for sale while he has also started planning future reinforcements.
Real Madrid has gone through a year of crisis recently, where they have not won a single trophy in two years.
