Unai Emery Says He’s Embarrassed On Loan Player Situation

News

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has described Harvey Elliott’s loan move from Liverpool as “embarrassing for everyone involved” due to the midfielder’s extremely limited playing time.

The English attacking midfielder has made just four Premier League appearances for the Birmingham club on loan this season.

If the 23-year-old had appeared in ten league games for Aston Villa, a permanent transfer clause worth €40m would have been automatically activated.

Ahead of tomorrow’s match with Liverpool, Emery expressed regret for the whole incident in a press conference.

“It’s an embarrassing situation for everyone involved. I feel sorry for Harvey Elliott every day,” Emery initially said.

“But it’s a matter of responsibility. We have our responsibility and Liverpool have theirs.”

“On a human level, the way the season has gone has been difficult for him,” the Aston Villa coach concluded.
