Portugal national team coach Roberto Martinez has surprised the sports world with his latest statement, saying he believes Portugal can win the 2026 World Cup also because of “numerology”.
In an interview with Portuguese broadcaster RTP , the Spanish coach expressed optimism about the Lusitanian national team’s chances in the next World Cup, linking Portugal’s historic successes with the number 6.
“I believe a lot in numerology. I think the number 6 can bring something very good. In 2016 Portugal won the European Championship, in 1966 they achieved the best result in history at the World Cup, while in 2006 they were in the semi-finals. This is the moment to achieve what Portugal really deserves,” declared Martinez.
His comments have received a lot of attention in international media and social networks, with many fans commenting on them with humor, while others have seen it as a way to motivate the team ahead of the biggest football tournament in the world.
However, beyond numerology, Portugal is actually considered one of the contenders for triumph in the 2026 World Cup.
