Although Real Madrid failed to win any major trophies for the second season in a row, Los Blancos were still awarded some of the most important individual awards at the end of the Champions League season.
The Spanish giant ended its European adventure in the quarterfinals, after being eliminated with an aggregate score of 6-4.
On Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain were declared European champions for the second year in a row, becoming only the second team in the Champions League era to achieve this feat, after Real Madrid.
However, one of the biggest individual winners was Kylian Mbappe.
The French striker finished the tournament with 15 goals, securing the title of the competition’s top scorer.
Neither Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was named the tournament’s best player with 10 goals, nor Ousmane Dembele with 8, managed to come close to Mbappe’s numbers.
This is his second trophy as top scorer, after the one he shared with Harry Kane in 2024.
Arda Guler is declared the “Young Player of the Season”
Among the few positives for Real Madrid this season, Turkish talent Arda Guler stood out. The attacking midfielder was decisive in several important matches, scoring a spectacular goal from distance after a mistake by Manuel Neuer and then a fantastic free kick in Munich.
Guler also played a key role in Real Madrid’s qualification against Manchester City in the round of 16, which led to UEFA honoring him with the “Discovery of the Season” award.
This award replaces the previous award for the best young player of the tournament and is dedicated to footballers under the age of 21 who have broken through during the season.
Fede Valverde wins goal of the season award
Another award for Madrid went to Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan midfielder won the award for the most beautiful goal of the tournament thanks to his spectacular performance against Manchester City, in the match where he completed a “hat-trick” against the English champions.
This moment is considered one of the rare highlights of the season for the Madrid team.
Marcos Llorente in the lineup of the season
Only one La Liga player was included in the best team of the tournament, Atletico Madrid right-back Marcos Llorente.
His excellent performances and inexhaustible energy throughout the season secured him a place in UEFA’s ideal team.
Llorente also played a key role in the action that led to Ademola Lookman’s decisive goal against Barcelona in the quarter-finals.
Apart from him, the only other Spaniard included in the team of the season was Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
