According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have resumed talks over the transfer of Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali in recent days, while Manchester United executives consider the operation financially too costly.
The Italy international is expected to leave Newcastle United this summer, although the English club are said to have set a price tag of around €115m for him, according to reports from Italy.
Romano confirms that Arsenal have reopened contact for the former Milan midfielder, after the newly-declared Premier League champions had also shown interest during the January transfer window.
The Gunners have sought information on Tonali’s availability through several contacts made in recent days, keeping the Italian on the list of top targets for the midfield department.
Meanwhile, Tonali continues to be an option for Manchester City, although the English champions’ current priority remains Elliot Anderson.
Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the 26-year-old midfielder, but according to Romano, the Red Devils have cooled their interest. The main reason is that the club’s executives believe the total cost of the deal, including the transfer fee and the player’s wages, would be too high.
Manchester United have already secured a midfield reinforcement for next season, as they prepare to welcome Atalanta midfielder Ederson in a deal worth around €45m, including bonuses.
