Barcelona are enjoying an outstanding run of form in La Liga, having recorded nine consecutive victories. Their latest success came in the local derby against Espanyol, whom they defeated 2–0.
That win allowed the Catalan side to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points, with Real Madrid still yet to play their next league match.
Focus Shifts to the Spanish Super Cup
In the coming days, Barcelona will travel to Saudi Arabia, where they will face Athletic Bilbao next week in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final. If they progress, the Blaugrana will meet the winner of the other semi-final between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the final.
Flick: “Winning the Super Cup Is the Goal”
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick made no secret of his ambitions, while stressing the need for caution.
“Winning the Super Cup? That is the objective,” Flick said.
“But first we have to play against Athletic Club, who are a very strong opponent. We’ll see what happens.”
The German coach also outlined the team’s immediate plans:
“Now we have a day off tomorrow. Then, after training, we’ll travel to Saudi Arabia and start preparing for the match.”
With momentum firmly on their side, Barcelona will look to carry their domestic dominance onto the international stage as they chase their next piece of silverware.
