Alvaro Arbeloa launched a scathing attack on the officials after the match, after Real Madrid were denied a clear penalty in their 1-1 draw with Girona.
The Madrid coach also commented on concerns about Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, as Los Blancos dropped points again in the title race.
Real Madrid were left disappointed after a controversial decision denied them a potentially decisive penalty in the final minutes of the match.
A controversial moment occurred in the 88th minute, when Mbappe appeared to be fouled by Vitor Reis.
Footage showed Mbappe being elbowed by Reis, leaving his face bleeding. However, referee Javier Alberola did not rule it out as a foul and VAR did not intervene.
“It’s a penalty here and on the moon. And it’s just one more. Another one. It’s what we have, it’s what it is. Neither I nor anyone else understands it. VAR intervenes when it suits them, and when it doesn’t, it doesn’t intervene.”
“I said it yesterday, and you know my opinion. These cases confirm it. It’s a clear foul. Kylian was penalised for a foul in the first half that was even easier.”
“We’ve had a lot of problems with the referees. With this, in Mallorca… it’s the same old story,” Arbeloa declared.
Despite the controversy surrounding the division of justice, attention was also focused on Madrid’s attacking duo, as Mbappe and Vinicius Junior failed to score against a disciplined Girona.
