Barcelona Star Needs to Get Operated – Risks The World Cup

News

Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Fermin Lopez has suffered a fractured bone and will undergo surgery, following the injury sustained in the match against Real Betis.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury during Barcelona’s 3-1 La Liga win, where he was forced to leave at half-time after taking a hard blow to his foot.

Medical assessments later confirmed the fracture, and the club is now preparing for surgical intervention – a situation that seriously questions his participation in the 2026 World Cup.

Such injuries usually require at least two months of recovery, meaning Fermín is now racing against time to return to full fitness before Spain begin their tournament campaign.

Fermin was expected to have an important role in Spain, following his rise to prominence after winning Euro 2024 and the Olympic gold medal, so this return back is considered a major blow before the summer.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is expected to announce the list of players on May 25.
