Real Madrid has received good news from the Ministry of Justice. The “merengues” club has communicated with an official note that the Brazilian player, Vinicius Junior, swore to the Spanish Constitution last Friday, September 2. Therefore, since Friday, the winger has received citizenship and Spanish nationality and thus no longer occupies a place as an extra-community footballer in Ancelotti’s formation.

Vinicius, who has been living in Spain since 2018, was still waiting for his Spanish passport. He had met the criteria required by law to obtain citizenship. Two years ago he took the two exams required in the following procedure, one in Spanish and one in the general culture of the country. Recently, he was only waiting for the oath in the Constitution to obtain citizenship, something that had been delayed much longer than expected by Real Madrid and that created some concerns at the club. A procedure that was finally formalized last Friday.

Real Madrid currently have two extra-EU footballers, Brazilians Rodrygo Goes and Eder Militao, who are also awaiting the final formality to obtain Spanish citizenship.

Vinicius’ dual citizenship is, in any case, great news for Madrid, who can bring in another player from outside the EU, especially from Latin America, where there is never a shortage of talent.
