Britney Spears was arrested after police reportedly followed her vehicle for nearly an hour during a traffic incident in Ventura, California.
According to reports, the 44 year old pop star was stopped by traffic police after allegedly driving erratically and repeatedly switching lanes in a dangerous manner.
Authorities said the pursuit began at around 8:13 p.m. and lasted until approximately 9:13 p.m., when Spears finally pulled over and exited her vehicle. She was driving a black 2026 BMW convertible at the time of the incident.
Police were initially alerted through a 911 call reporting a vehicle moving unpredictably between lanes. Officers then began following the car before eventually stopping Spears.
During the stop, officers also requested the presence of a Drug Recognition Expert, a specialist trained to identify signs of drug impairment.
Spears was later taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. She has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
In a statement, her team described the situation as an unfortunate incident and said the singer intends to cooperate with authorities and follow all legal procedures.
Spears is the mother of two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, who currently live with their father Kevin Federline in Hawaii.
The incident is not the first time Spears has faced legal issues related to driving. In the past she has been cited for traffic violations including using her phone while driving and crossing into opposing lanes after nights out.
The latest episode adds to a long history of public scrutiny surrounding the pop star’s personal life and legal struggles.
