Clippers shock everyone, cut franchise legend Chris Paul mid-season

News

The Los Angeles Clippers announced a surprising move that no one expected – they have released Chris Paul in the middle of the season.

“We are parting ways with Chris Paul and he will no longer be part of our team. We will work with him on the next step of his career. Chris is a legend, and we want to make it clear that no one is blaming him for our poor results,” the club said in its statement.

The 40-year-old NBA legend played 16 games this season with the Clippers, averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 assists. Paul himself was shocked by the club’s sudden decision: “Just found out they sent me home,” he wrote on Instagram.

Paul’s last game in a Clippers jersey was against Miami, where he recorded 8 points and 3 assists in 15 minutes. The Clippers have registered their 16th loss in 21 games this season.

At the moment, it is unknown whether this is the end of Paul’s NBA career or if he could join another team before the season ends.

Chris Paul has previously announced that he plans to retire at the end of this season, the 21st of his career.

He is a 12-time All-Star, an 11-time All-NBA selection, one of the 75 greatest players of all time, and has made the All-Defensive Team five times, nine times in total throughout his career.
