Manchester United are considering an ambitious summer overhaul, with journalist Ben Jacobs identifying a tactical shift in the club’s recruitment strategy.
Speaking to The United Stand, Jacobs revealed that while Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is a “potential” target, he is considered an expensive option compared to Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who is currently ranked higher on the wish list.
“When they take the first midfielder, that decision will influence the direction they take for the second midfielder,” Jacobs explained.
The Red Devils are also closely monitoring West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, with the latter described as “very similar” to Kobbie Mainoo.
Meanwhile, Wolves’ Joao Gomes remains a name in the running following January talks.
This strategic move comes as United look to replace the departing Casemiro.
It is reported that the club has cooled its interest in Ruben Neves, seeing him more as a short-term solution than as a pillar for the long-term project under the leadership of INEOS.
