Dutchman Clarence Seedorf, with 87 caps for his national team, declared that “if the football gods exist, it would be nice to see Messi lift the World Cup” on Sunday after the final against France.

For Seedorf, one of the most successful footballers in European competitions, Messi “has something more than Mbappe”.

“Although what (the French forward) is doing at his age is incredible, he is a finalist and Messi has shown that he knows how to decide games with exceptional plays. He can make game-changing decisions.”

Seedorf, speaking to reporters at a Legends tournament in Doha, added that he envisions “a great final” between “two great teams, who deserved to get there. We will live a special day”.

The Dutchman thinks that France is a consolidated team, but that will face a rival, like Argentina, “which has shown extraordinary group spirit and which undoubtedly has an element called Messi”.
