Italy is going through a turbulent period after failing to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row.
However, a solution for the hot bench has been found sooner than expected and, according to information from Gianluca Di Marzio and Nicolo Schira, Roberto Mancini is returning to the coaching position.
Italian media are reporting that Mancini’s return to the Azzurri bench has become a mere formality. Renowned journalist Nicolo Schira revealed that a long-term contract is ready for the former captain until 2030, according to which he will earn two million euros per season.
The plan is for Mancini to lead the national team until the end of the World Cup in 2030, with a clear clause that the federation reserves the right to terminate the collaboration earlier if Italy fails again in future qualifiers.
While the final agreement regarding the new head of the coaching staff was awaited, the national team was temporarily led by Silvio Baldini, who was reappointed from the U-21 selection.
Baldini did a good job in two friendly matches, recording two 1-0 wins against Luxembourg and Greece.
We recall that Mancini won the European Championship with Italy in 2021, and then managed Saudi Arabia and Qatar’s Al-Sadd.
