News

Lionel Messi has officially become the new owner of Spanish club UE Cornella, taking a major step towards owning a football club.

The news has been confirmed by the club itself through an official statement, announcing that the Argentine legend has finalized the purchase of the team from Baix Llobregat.

“Cornella announces that the Argentine footballer and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Leo Messi, has formalized the purchase of the club, becoming the new owner of the institution from Baix Llobregat.”

“This step reinforces Messi’s close ties with Barcelona and his commitment to the development of sport and local talent in Catalonia – a connection that stems from his years at FC Barcelona and which has continued to this day.”

The club, founded in 1951, is considered one of the most traditional in Catalan football and is known for its strong academy and development of young players.

“UE Cornella is one of the clubs with the greatest tradition in Catalan football and at national level. Throughout its history, the club has stood out for its strong academy and its ability to compete at the highest levels of semi-professional football in Spain.”

Several well-known football names have emerged from this club, including Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, Messi’s former Barcelona and Inter Miami teammate Jordi Alba, as well as other players such as Gerard Martin, Javi Puado, Keita Balde, Aitor Ruibal and Ilie Sanchez.

The club has also placed particular emphasis on youth development, with teams competing at the highest levels of youth football, and this is in line with Messi’s commitment to young talent, such as the “Messi Cup” tournament, organized for the first time in Miami with the participation of some of the world’s greatest academies.

“The arrival of Leo Messi marks the beginning of a new chapter in the club’s history, with the aim of promoting sporting and institutional growth, strengthening the foundations and continuing to invest in talent.”
